There are many spa treatments choices available! In fact there may be so many spa treatments that a three to five day spa vacation might not be enough time for you to experience all of the services available. With that, it is a good idea to acquaint yourself with the different spa treatments that you might come across, so that you will have an idea of what to expect. Knowing what to expect can make your decision making easier.

With that, here are some spa treatments that you might want to consider apart from massages:

1) Balenotherapy – Balenotherapy typically refers to disease treatment through water. This is a usual practice in spas of the olden times. Today, balenotherapy involves the use of hot water or cold water, and it is not just for disease treatment alone. People also use water treatments for relaxation, stimulation and pain management. Balenotherapy is usually done in spas with hot spring waters, which contain trace minerals. Not all destination spa vacation resorts have springs though, so hot tubs can also be used.

2) Body Scrubs – Body scrubs are popular spa treatment and are basically “facials” for the body. The treatment sloughs off dead and dull skin to help hydrate and rejuvenate the skin. Body scrubs are usually done with the use of abrasive materials like salt, sugar, oatmeal, coffee grounds or rice bran. They are often mixed with massage oils or even milk. Body scrubs are recommended on a monthly or bi-weekly basis to help exfoliate the skin regularly. A body scrub treatment is always followed with a shower and some lotion.

3) Body Wraps – Body wraps have different purposes. These spa treatments can either be detoxifying, slimming or hydrating depending on the products used. During a body wrap session, your body will be slathered with a body mask, which can either be made from seaweed, algae, clay, mud, cream or lotion. Then, the body will be wrapped to keep the mask in place and keep you warm. The product is then rinsed off at the end of the treatment. Body wraps usually go hand in hand with body scrubs.

4) Facials – A skin facial is very common in destination spa vacation resorts, and is the next most popular spa treatment following massages. A facial is basically a skin cleansing procedure that cleanses, exfoliates and nourishes your skin. Facials can range from very simple (cleanse, tone and moisturize) to very elaborate (cleanse, exfoliate, tone, prick, mask, moisturize). They can also include special treatments like diamond peels, radio frequency massages or galvanic treatments. Like body scrubs, facials are also recommended on a regular basis to keep your skin smoother, fresher and younger looking.

5) Waxing – Waxing is a method of hair removal that pulls out hair right from the root. It can be done on different parts of the body with hair. Women usually wax their underarms, arms, legs and even pubic area to remove hair growth. While most destination spa vacation treatments are relaxing, waxing can be a bit painful. Some people find the pain from waxing to be quite tolerable and even pleasurable.

These are just a few of the many spa treatments you can try at destination spa vacation resorts. So go ahead, unwind and try as many treatments as you like. Find a destination spa resort using Spaseeker's easy free search engine.
